Aurora's Surgery Updates
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
This is where the updates to Aurora's surgery will be made.

Aurora's Story
Aurora is an 8 week old husky. She was found at a breeder by a prospective adoptor, where she was adopting another puppy. She knew that Aurora had something terrible wrong with her leg and needed more help than the breeder could give, and decided to help Aurora. After she brought the puppies home she contacted many rescues only to be denied assistance. When she contacted Fur and Tails Animal Rescue , she talked to Carri and a plan was developed. We decided to look for donations to cover the cost of her treatment, although at the time, we had no idea of what would be needed.
Aurora's first veterinarian visit confirmed that there was a break in her leg, the x-rays clearly showed a fracture in her leg and it was decided to try to save her leg. As an active puppy, we thought that she deserved the most normal life possible. We started a Give Send Go campaign, A Go Fund Me Campaign, A Zeffy Campaign and Facebook Fundraisers. We are continuing to raise funds for her at this time.

This sweet dog, was scheduled for surgery a week from arriving at our rescue. Her broken leg was splinted and she was given pain medication. Her activity was restricted and we waited for the funds to arrive and surgery day. She had a in-depth appointment with the surgeron and it was determined that the best aproach would be to place a plate and pins to facilitate the bone regrowth.

The day of surgery arrived. The surgeon started the procedure. When he exposed the break in preparation to place the plate and pins on her tibia, he found something unexpected. All of the ligament attachments between the Tibia and Femur had detached. This means that if the fracture was repaired her knee joint would be unstable causing chronic pain, which would need surgical repair in the future as well. Phone calls were made from the operating room and the decision was made to amputate her leg. The day after surgery, she is back at the rescue foster's home, recovering. We are continuing to seek additional funding as the surgery costs are comparable and we still need to fund her recovery.
